Breaking Barriers Through W-TALK

From e-commerce ventures to consulting to virtual incubators, women are steadily making their mark upon the world since they became self-aware. Today, we are seeing more women enter fields that were once denied to them through entrepreneurial ventures. At present, women entrepreneurs constitute around 14% of the total entrepreneurship in India. That’s about 8.05 million out of the 58.5 million entrepreneurs that exist in the country. While there’s still a long way to go, the number is growing. Platforms that give women a voice and a chance to become entrepreneurs are helping to change the tide.

JK Business School strongly believes in giving women a stage to further entrepreneurship. To this effect, it played host to the Gurugram chapter of virtual incubator Womennovator’s W-TALK on July 19, 2019. W-TALK is a platform that focuses on different aspects of business such as Stratathon (strategies), Investothon (investment) and Brandathon (branding). This year, the event covered Women Entrepreneurship and Global Business Alliances for Women, Growth Strategy, Market Linkages and Activation, and Government Support Schemes for Women Entrepreneurs.

W-TALK had several inspiring entrepreneur speakers who shared their stories. Among them were Tripti Shinghal Somani, Founder, Womennovator and CEO, KGS Advisors who traced Womennovator’s journey from its inception in 2014 to provide a platform for women entrepreneurs to the year 2018 when Womennovator’s 100 Women Faces campaign entered the Asia Book of Records. She said, “Talking about cultured India, when you start earning, the one thing that’s always going to work is thinking creatively. We must always remember that creativity and opportunity result in innovation and as entrepreneurs you must always be innovative.”

The next speaker, Vinita Bhati, Associate Vice President, Times of India – the first woman in India to head the Kabaddi League – motivated the students with words of encouragement, advising them to have the will and determination to fulfil their dreams.

Prathibha Prahlad, Padmasri & Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee, founder festival director, Delhi International Arts, in her speech, emphasized the importance of a good education, saying that it sets the ground for independence. She also added, “Success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration.”

Roshni Baronia, Go-Global strategist, speaker, RB Consulting, also had inspiring words to share, urging the students to dream big and maintain their curiosity to learn new things.

Vertica Dvivedi, founder, Wade Asia, Co-chair – WEC, PhD Chamber of Commerce and Industry spread the message of learning early in life and stressed the need to set goals. She said, “Sometimes, you have to go after opportunities because they won’t always come to you.”

The rousing W-Talk by Womennovator’s Gurugram chapter inspired JK Business School students to break new ground in their lives too. The talk introduced them to the entrepreneurship possibilities available to women and how they can achieve their highest potential – to be recognized, acknowledged, rewarded and respected.
