About a week back we at JK Business School Gurgaon – were examining and taking viva of final year students on FRP ( Final Research Report). We had an external examiner in Dr Amit Mittal along with our college panels of faculty. A student was presenting a topic of her research – Cognitive biases in Advertising and Branding ( something like this ), I liked and appreciated the topic which was current and relevant. In my opinion – Life is all about cognition. The student started her presentation with a conceptual outline – which Dr Amit Mittal examined as a MODEL and I examined it as a ANALYTICAL FRAMEWORK. Since then these two words – MODEL and FRAMEWORK has been in my mind and thoughts. What is the difference between the two or are they same. The two words have been used in the world of Business Academia for quite some time now. When Dr Mittal used the word ‘model’, I was reminded of the quote which I read long time back somewhere –“ the source of human power is neither muscle nor mind but models.” I also read following poetic lines in TIME magazine January 2021 issue –
For there is always light,
if only we’re brave enough to see it.
If only we’re brave enough to be it.
—Amanda Gorman, January 20, 2021
This is what a MODEL and FRAMEWORK does to an analysis.
