International Conference on Intellectual Property Rights addresses concerns fueled by Digital Transformation
The International Conference on ‘Intellectual Property Rights: Digital Transformation’ (27-29 March) brought together well-known names from industry and academia on one platform. Organized by JK Business School in association with Fr. Agnel College of Arts & Commerce, Goa and SDPA, New Delhi, the three-day conference looked to discuss national and international legal positions on diverse issues including copyright, plagiarism, and patent through curated sessions.
Information centers and libraries are deeply influenced by the latest developments in information and communication technology and the social media. Digital transformation presents its own set of challenges including digital privacy, which has become a key concern. The conference offered scholars, researchers, library and information science professionals, lawyers, copy editors, publishers, and others a timely opportunity to learn about current and emerging issues and get their concerns addressed.
Presenting an overview of the conference in his Welcome Address, Dr. Savio Falleiro, Chief Patron of the conference, highlighted the importance of IPRs. Dr. Sanjiv Marwah, Director, JK Business School took this thought forward in his Opening Address. He reminded the gathering that all academicians should take the responsibility of preserving IPRs very seriously. He observed, ‘Digitalization has thrown up new challenges with the emergence of new technologies. At the same time it has provided solutions to many problems.’ Dr. Marwah was joined on stage by Mr. Ramesh K. Tiwari, Librarian, JK Business School, who shared his experiences with the gathering.
The Chief Guest for the function Dr. Fr. Menino Allan SM Peter Tavares, Administrator, Fr. Agnel College of Arts & Commerce, Pilar, Goa discussed the significance of ideas in research. He underlined the importance of mentioning the source of any idea. Releasing a book on the conference, he said, ‘We are all blessed with imagination. That should help us in creating an environment that allows people to be happy and prosperous.’
The conference witnessed academicians, practitioners, and researchers presenting papers in the course of six technical sessions. Prizes and awards recognized the contribution of participants: Dr. Dipti Arora received the Best Paper Citation prize; Dr. Reji George was awarded the Best Paper Presentation prize; Dr. Shishir H. Mandalia was presented with the Best Academic LIS Professional Award; and Mr. S.S. Ahamad, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India was honored with the Special Librarian Award. Chief Guest Dr. Dipankar Mukherjee, former Director, University of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia presided over the Valedictory Session.
The International Conference on ‘Intellectual Property Rights: Digital Transformation’ provided a unique opportunity to discuss diverse aspects of IPRs in the context of digital transformation that has topical relevance across countries and continents.
